Peugeot 205 GTI Sold At Auction For World Record Price

If you were old enough to drive a car in the 1980’s and early 1990’s and took a fancy to fast sports hatchbacks then it is almost certain that you will be familiar with the Peugeot 205 GTI. The 1.6 litre version was launched in 1984 and was later followed by the more powerful 1.9 litre engine.Peugeot 250 GTI

One of the reasons why it no doubt appealed to some people was because of the speed produced by its powerful 126 bhp engine. It was capable of getting from 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 125 mph.

You may be interested and some may perhaps be surprised to read that an F registered 1989 Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI with an estimate of between £18,000 to £22,000 was sold at The Silverstone Classic Sale 2016 that recently took place for £30,938 which was a world record for that make and model. That is quite a bit higher than its estimated sale price.

The silver metallic car was bought brand new by its only owner on the 8th May 1989 for £10,001.93. It has done a mere 7,986 miles as, not long after buying the vehicle, the owner’s employer provided him with a company car so it only tended to be used over the summer period. The car was laid up for a lengthy period between June 2004 and February 2012. The car is in wonderful condition throughout so much so that, apparently, nobody has ever sat in the back of it. The half-leather seats are two-tone and the interior is in immaculate condition. The ash tray and cigarette lighter have never been used.

There may be a number of other modern classic cars from the 1980’s and 1990’s that would make good investments and achieve excellent prices at auction.
